Geometric dependence of Nb-BiTe-Nb topological Josephson junction transport parameters
Superconductor-topological insulator-superconductor Josephson junctions have
been fabricated in order to study the width dependence of the critical current,
normal state resistance and flux periodicity of the critical current modulation
in an external field. Previous literature reports suggest anomalous scaling in
topological junctions due to the presence of Majorana bound states. However,
for most realised devices, one would expect that trivial -periodic
Andreev levels dominate transport. We also observe anomalous scaling behaviour
of junction parameters, but the scaling can be well explained by mere geometric
effects, such as the parallel bulk conductivity shunt and flux focusing
Experimental realization of SQUIDs with topological insulator junctions
We demonstrate topological insulator (BiTe) dc SQUIDs, based on
superconducting Nb leads coupled to nano-fabricated Nb-BiTe-Nb
Josephson junctions. The high reproducibility and controllability of the
fabrication process allows the creation of dc SQUIDs with parameters that are
in agreement with design values. Clear critical current modulation of both the
junctions and the SQUID with applied magnetic fields have been observed. We
show that the SQUIDs have a periodicity in the voltage-flux characteristic of
, of relevance to the ongoing pursuit of realizing interferometers for
the detection of Majorana fermions in superconductor- topological insulator

Windtunnel model position and orientation
In this contribution the determination of the position of moving and deforming objects in windtunnels from CCD camera information is studied. An analytical approach is discussed which solves the problem directly from manipulating nonlinear distance formulae. Also a least-squares approach is given, which is most convenient to implement from a numerical point of view
On the relation between person-oriented and subject-specific approaches
The necessity of using subject-specific data analysis of non-ergodic psychological processes is explained, emphasizing the difference between inter-individual and intra-individual variation. It is argued that subject-specific data analysis not only matches the principles underlying Developmental Systems Theory, but also enables testing of all principles of person-oriented theory. A new generalized perspective on measurement equivalence in subject-specific data analysis is introduced. The importance of computational optimal control of psychological processes within the context of subject-specific data analysis is emphasized. In closing, some broader aims of subject-specific data analysis are considered
Translationally invariant cumulants in energy cascade models of turbulence
In the context of random multiplicative energy cascade processes, we derive
analytical expressions for translationally invariant one- and two-point
cumulants in logarithmic field amplitudes. Such cumulants make it possible to
distinguish between hitherto equally successful cascade generator models and
hence supplement lowest-order multifractal scaling exponents and multiplier
distributions.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figs, elsart.cls include
Person-Specific Non-shared Environmental Influences in Intra-individual Variability : A Preliminary Case of Daily School Feelings in Monozygotic Twins
Most behavioural genetic studies focus on genetic and environmental influences on inter-individual phenotypic differences at the population level. The growing collection of intensive longitudinal data in social and behavioural science offers a unique opportunity to examine genetic and environmental influences on intra-individual phenotypic variability at the individual level. The current study introduces a novel idiographic approach and one novel method to investigate genetic and environmental influences on intra-individual variability by a simple empirical demonstration. Person-specific non-shared environmental influences on intra-individual variability of daily school feelings were estimated using time series data from twenty-one pairs of monozygotic twins (age = 10 years, 16 female pairs) over two consecutive weeks. Results showed substantial inter-individual heterogeneity in person-specific non-shared environmental influences. The current study represents a first step in investigating environmental influences on intra-individual variability with an idiographic approach, and provides implications for future behavioural genetic studies to examine developmental processes from a microscopic angle
